When I was young I used to think that money was the most important thing in life. Now that I am old, I know it is.
~~ Oscar Wilde ~~ (1854 - 1900)
Young or old, everybody must learn quickly that money is the most important thing in life; nay, money is life! LOL
So now that you have been made aware as to how important the money is, from now on you should only dream of money and more money! And I mean gather lots of money like being a multi-billionaire - don’t even think of being a millionaire because millionaires now-a-days are dime a dozen. :-)
Money will help you a lot in attaining power and prestige. However, don’t delude yourself that if you gather a lot of money you’ll have a happy life or even a satisfied life because money is not capable of buying that. Heck, the money can’t even buy you love but it does give you the option of doing stupid things, if you are so inclined, such as the hiring of a high priced call girl just like the former governor of New York, Mr. Eliot Spitzer did! LOL
Now if you were a mere mortal, like most of us, struggling to pay your bills; you wouldn’t even dream of paying, in cash, in the neighborhood of $4500 per hour for tryst with a call girl, would you? But when you have tons of dough then…
To be fair to Mr. Spitzer, he is not the only one indulging in such an exciting activity; a lot of folks with tons of dough and the power that goes along with it, do the same and enjoy life! After all, he was just a client number 9. :-)
Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.
~~ Oscar Wilde ~~ (1854 - 1900)
Ha ha ha. I think in that case most of us don’t suffer from the lack of imagination! Considering that a lot of us live from hand to mouth, we seem to possess way more imagination than we can handle!
Kidding aside, it’s prudent to live within one’s means; it has nothing to do with one’s imagination or lack thereof. Living beyond one’s means spells nothing but trouble. It involves incurring debt usually on credit cards which charge ridiculously high interest rates. And once one gets trapped in that vicious cycle of debt, it becomes extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get out of that cycle.
Imagination does not necessarily involve spending money, many people use their imagination to make money! Imagination is the ability to think forward, to conceive what doesn’t exist and make efforts to turn it into reality.
Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s original virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made.
~~ Oscar Wilde ~~ (1854 - 1900)
I do not agree with this quote. Disobedience and rebellion don’t always lead to progress though many times they do. While the consequences of disobedience may be minor to severe, the consequences of rebellion can be deadly particularly if the rebellion is against an autocratic ruler.
If you are an employee, I wouldn’t advise you to disobey the legitimate orders of your employer unless you are willing to lose your job. There usually are other avenues available to address your grievances instead of outright disobedience.
Does that mean one should never disobey or rebel? No, absolutely not. One should disobey or rebel when one is convinced about one’s cause and no other means work. But one should also be prepared to face the consequences that may follow.
