If You had Seen One Day of War, You Would Pray to God
If you had seen one day of war, you would pray to God that you would never see another.
~~ Napoleon Bonaparte ~~ (1769 - 1821)
Coming from Napoleon Bonaparte, a master soldier who conquered much of Europe and rose to be the Emperor of France, this quote speaks volumes about the stupidity and horrors of war. Obviously, those who have seen wars and, Napoleon not only saw but fought many wars in his lifetime, know that peace is way better than any war even when you win the war.
But to attain peace requires hardwork, foresight, courage and exemplary skills on the part of people in power while declaring war is easy because once the war is underway it’s the soldiers who pay for it with their blood, limbs and even lives. It’s not a surprise then that even today whever there is a conflict, the warmongers with the loudest drumbeat are those who have never been in a war and those people who have actually been in a war usually advise patience and negotiations.
