Great Poverty or Great Wealth Leads to Money-Crimes

Nothing incites to money-crimes like great poverty or great wealth.
~~ Mark Twain ~~ (1835 - 1910)

Now that is a paradox. One could understand why great poverty leads to money crimes - it’s the lack of money, obviously. One needs money, at least some money, to live and if one has absolutely no money then in all likelihood one would resort to money crimes just to survive.

But why does great wealth lead to money crimes? I mean when somebody already has the wealth in abundance and still has the right to accumulate more through legitimate means, then why that person would resort to money crimes?

I think the main reasons why many people with great wealth resort to money crimes are, first, the greed and thoughtless pursuit of money and power; they are in a rush to become the wealthiest person in the world without ever thinking that once you become the wealthiest person in the world then what? Second, the knowledge that they are highly unlikely to be caught by law enforcement agencies, and, that even if law enforcement catches up with them they’ll be able to get out of the jam by using their wealth and power.
